The cover states eight platforms were tested across four AI engines, and the post ranks which GEO tools fit Shopify merchants.

Generative engine optimization is the job of getting a brand and its products named when a shopper asks an AI assistant a buying question. In 2026 the category has more than 40 platforms competing for attention, and the ones sold to enterprise brands are not always the ones that fit a Shopify merchant running a 200-SKU store.

We tested 8 platforms across Shopify and AI visibility queries in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude between June 24 and July 8, 2026. Three findings stood out. First, most GEO tools are built for enterprise brand teams, not for merchants. Second, only two of the eight offer a Shopify-native install; the rest ask the merchant to paste URLs into a dashboard. Third, only one of the eight extends past measurement into fix tooling that a non-technical merchant can actually use.

Mention Network is our product. We include it in this listicle because the merchant fit is real, and we disclose the methodology below so you can judge the ranking against your own criteria.

In this piece:

How we picked the tools

We started with 27 platforms marketing themselves as GEO tools or AI visibility tools in June 2026. We filtered on four criteria that map to the Shopify merchant job:

  1. Engine coverage. The tool tracks at least three of the four engines that drive AI shopping traffic: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude.
  2. Shopify fit. The tool has a Shopify install, a documented Shopify workflow, or an ecommerce-first positioning that lines up with merchant reporting needs.
  3. Fix tooling. The tool goes past measurement into on-page audit, content suggestions, or write-back into the store.
  4. Pricing accessibility. The tool is available to a merchant without an enterprise sales cycle. Anything gated behind a mandatory demo call for accounts under $10K MRR was dropped.

Eight tools cleared the bar. Below we cover them in the order that maps to a merchant workflow: category leader first, then Shopify-native options, then AI visibility tools that fit specific edge cases, then the review-adjacent bet.

Snapshot date: 2026-07-08. Sample: 20 shopping prompts per tool, distributed evenly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude, in en-US.

1. Profound

The category leader for enterprise brand visibility. Profound raised roughly $1 billion in valuation across 2025 and 2026 and has become the reference point for large brand teams tracking mentions across AI assistants. Its dashboard is broad, its dataset is deep, and it covers more engines than most competitors, including Perplexity and Copilot.

Strengths

  • Category-widest engine coverage, useful for enterprise brands with global attention.
  • Mature analytics on prompt clusters, share of voice trends, and citation traffic.
  • Strong integrations with enterprise martech stacks.

Limits

  • Priced for enterprise brand teams, not for merchants running a 200-SKU Shopify store.
  • No Shopify-native install; the workflow assumes a marketing team pastes URLs and reads dashboards.

Best for: enterprise brand teams tracking global category conversations.

2. Mention Network

The AI visibility solution built for Shopify store owners. Mention Network launched its V1 in December 2025 as a Shopify-embedded app. It measures whether a merchant's store and products get named across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude when shoppers ask five auto-generated buying prompts: where to buy, best place to buy, where to buy authentic, cheapest place to buy, and fastest shipping. The report includes Visibility Score, AI Coverage (x/4), Share of Voice against competing retailers, and a Market Position table.

The product is built for merchants, not brand teams. It runs inside the Shopify admin, pulls product data automatically, and covers the full workflow from diagnosis to fix. Mention Network is the only tool in this list that goes past measurement into a four-phase workflow: AI Visibility Check, Website Audit, Optimization Plan, and Deploy Fixes.

Strengths

  • Shopify-native install, embedded in the admin, no CSV imports or URL pasting.
  • Four-engine coverage on the engines that matter for shopping queries (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude).
  • Full workflow from measurement to fix, not just a dashboard.
  • Free starter credit for a first-check scan on one product and one location.
  • Findings-first methodology transparency, every claim has a "how we measured" note.

Limits

  • Shopify only in V1. WooCommerce is on the roadmap.
  • Single-location per scan in V1. Multi-location is a future release.

Best for: Shopify merchants who want the report and the fix workflow inside the admin, without hiring a technical SEO.

3. Otterly

An AI visibility tracker built for marketing teams and agencies. Otterly tracks brand mentions across major AI assistants, groups prompts into topics, and reports on share of voice against competitors. The dashboard is clean and the reporting cadence is weekly.

Strengths

  • Straightforward setup for a general brand tracking use case.
  • Weekly reports fit an agency reporting cadence.
  • Prompt-topic grouping is useful for content teams triaging themes.

Limits

  • No Shopify install or ecommerce-specific workflow; merchants get a generic brand dashboard.
  • Measurement only, no fix tooling.

Best for: agencies and in-house marketing teams tracking a portfolio of brand mentions.

4. Peec AI

A GEO analytics platform aimed at brand teams. Peec AI monitors AI assistant answers for named mentions, citations, and sentiment, and reports on trends over time. It has a growing dataset and a dashboard that presents prompt-level detail.

Strengths

  • Detail-heavy prompt view, useful for brand teams doing deep-dive analysis.
  • Citation tracking alongside mention tracking, which most tools skip.
  • Custom prompt sets on higher tiers.

Limits

  • Positioned for brand teams, not merchants; onboarding assumes an analyst reads dashboards.
  • No Shopify install and no fix tooling.

Best for: brand teams that want granular prompt-level analytics.

5. Vizby

An AI visibility monitoring tool with a bias toward reporting formats that fit executive dashboards. Vizby covers the major AI assistants and packages the output into slide-ready summaries.

Strengths

  • Slide-ready reporting output.
  • Sentiment scoring alongside mention counts.
  • Weekly delivery cadence.

Limits

  • Report-first, action-second: the tool tells you the score but not what to change on the page.
  • No Shopify install and no ecommerce-specific prompt set.

Best for: teams that need to brief an executive on AI visibility every week.

6. Glara

A GEO tool that focuses on prompt discovery and coverage tracking. Glara helps a brand find the prompts it should be tracking, then measures coverage across the major AI assistants over time.

Strengths

  • Prompt discovery is strong; the tool suggests buying-intent phrases the brand may not have listed itself.
  • Reasonable pricing for solo marketers and small teams.
  • Coverage trend charts are easy to read.

Limits

  • No Shopify install; the workflow lives outside the merchant's store.
  • Measurement only.

Best for: solo marketers looking for a lightweight prompt discovery and tracking tool.

7. IndexGPT

A Shopify rank tracker that measures whether product listings appear in AI assistant answers. IndexGPT has a Shopify app install and focuses tightly on the product-listing use case, which is a narrower slice of the GEO problem than the other tools cover.

Strengths

  • Shopify install; the tool lives where the merchant works.
  • Product-level tracking is the tightest fit for stores with catalog-heavy SKUs.
  • Simple onboarding.

Limits

  • Product-listing scope only; the tool does not cover brand-level share of voice or competitor position.
  • No fix workflow; the merchant reads a report and decides what to do.

Best for: Shopify merchants who want a lightweight product-level tracker and already have a content team handling the rest.

8. Yotpo Discover

Yotpo's newer AI visibility product, currently in early access via a waitlist. Yotpo Discover extends the company's review and loyalty data into an AI visibility offering, on the bet that review signals feed AI assistant recommendations.

Strengths

  • Ecommerce-first company with deep merchant relationships.
  • Review data alongside AI visibility signals, which no other tool on this list combines.
  • Existing Yotpo customers get a coherent buying story.

Limits

  • Waitlist gate as of July 2026; general availability was not confirmed at snapshot time.
  • Ecosystem tie-in: most valuable to merchants already on Yotpo's review or loyalty products.

Best for: Yotpo customers who want AI visibility rolled into a stack they already use.

Two tools ship with a Shopify install: Mention Network and IndexGPT. One tool ships with a fix workflow: Mention Network. Every other tool on this list stops at measurement.

Which tool fits which merchant

The choice comes down to three factors: how the merchant works, how much fix work the tool needs to do, and how much of the process should sit inside Shopify.

A merchant running a Shopify store who wants the report and the fix inside the admin. Mention Network is the closest fit; the workflow starts with a free AI Visibility Check and extends to the audit, plan, and deploy phases in the same app.

A merchant with a catalog-heavy Shopify store who already has a content team. IndexGPT covers the product-listing tracker piece, and the content team handles the rest.

A merchant tracking a single flagship product against a large enterprise brand competitor. Profound has the widest dataset; the tradeoff is pricing and setup weight.

An agency reporting to a portfolio of clients. Otterly or Peec AI fit an agency cadence; both are dashboard-first and cover the four engines that matter.

A Yotpo customer with a review-driven brand. Yotpo Discover is worth joining the waitlist for; the review-signal angle is unique.

Methodology

We tested 8 platforms across Shopify and AI visibility queries between June 24 and July 8, 2026. For each platform we ran the same 20 shopping prompts, distributed evenly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude, in en-US. Prompts were drawn from the 5 buying-intent templates that map to how shoppers actually ask AI assistants for recommendations: where to buy, best place to buy, where to buy authentic, cheapest place to buy, and fastest shipping.

For engine coverage we used each platform's advertised engine list at snapshot time. For Shopify fit we checked the Shopify App Store and each platform's onboarding flow. For fix tooling we tested whether the platform surfaces on-page recommendations or writes back to the store. For pricing accessibility we checked whether an account under $10K MRR could sign up without a mandatory demo call.

Coverage claims and pricing tiers change. If a claim in this piece looks off against what you see today, please tell us and we will re-test.

Frequently asked questions

What is a GEO tool? A GEO tool measures whether AI assistants name a brand or its products when a user asks a buying question, and helps the brand improve that coverage over time.

Are GEO tools different from AI SEO tools? In 2026 the two terms describe the same category. AI SEO and GEO both track brand and product mentions across AI assistants. GEO is the more precise term because AI assistants are generative engines, not classic search engines.

Do any GEO tools plug directly into Shopify? Yes. Mention Network and IndexGPT both offer a Shopify app install. A Shopify-native install pulls product data automatically instead of asking the merchant to paste URLs.

How many AI engines should a GEO tool cover? Four engines cover roughly 90% of AI-assistant shopping traffic in 2026: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Claude. Some tools add Perplexity or Copilot for enterprise use cases.

Do GEO tools also fix the visibility problems they find? Coverage varies. Most GEO tools stop at measurement. A few, including Mention Network, extend into a four-phase workflow that goes from AI Visibility Check to Website Audit to Optimization Plan to Deploy Fixes.

For the shape of AI-assistant shopping traffic and how buyers actually phrase prompts, SparkToro's audience research blog has good primary data. Backlinko's SEO fundamentals still apply on top of the GEO layer, and Practical Ecommerce publishes the working-merchant angle we tried to match here. Shopify's own merchant education and Google's Search Central round out the reference stack.
